Our Matcha

We work directly and exclusively with a family-owned farm in Kirishima, Japan, where the soil is unparalleled and the craftsmanship is unmatched! The soil beds are mineralized by an active volcano, Sakurajima, with its ash carried across the waters of Kagoshima Bay, where they envelop the mile-high, rolling slopes of our farm with a nourishing mist. Our partners – a 5th-generation Tea Farmer and a 4th-generation Tea Sommelier – are recognized as two of Japan’s foremost authorities in organic tea cultivation and traditional Matcha artistry. Together, they cultivate proprietary varietals found nowhere else in Japan, crafting Matcha that is rare as it is remarkable. We have been privileged to spend time together in Japan during harvest season and to have them visit us here in California, where we continue to innovate while honoring traditional techniques.

At Boochies, Matcha is not just an ingredient - it is the foundation of everything we create. We proudly offer five distinct grades of true ceremonial Matcha (only the top 8 leaves of the Camelia Sinensis bush, shade-grown during spring, cold-cured and freshly ground), each sourced from our exclusive farm in Kirishima and crafted from unique cultivars. This level of variety is incredibly rare. Each cultivar has its own character, from exceptionally smooth and sweet to bold and grounding, allowing you to experience Matcha the way it was meant to be - vibrant, alive and distinct. Most cafes serve a single, often lower-grade matcha. At Boochies, you’re experiencing the full spectrum of authentic, ceremonial Matcha.

In addition to our ceremonial offerings, we’ve spent decades developing our signature Matcha blends - made with real, whole ingredients like dried spices, botanicals, herbal and fungal delicacies sourced from organic farms or wild-harvested around the world. Every Matcha blend is designed to complement the Matcha, not mask it, creating drinks that are both functional and deeply enjoyable. The result is something entirely unique and a level of variety you simply won’t find anywhere else.
