Meet Rebekah aka "Boochie"

I’m Rebekah Ball, the founder of Boochies. I am a certified, holistic nutritionist and herbalist, mother, and matcha expert with over 27 years of experience. My journey began when I was introduced to matcha at the age of 19, while dealing with IBS and hormone issues. After one of my herbology teachers shared ceremonial matcha with me for the first time, my life and health transformed after only 1 month of drinking it daily! Almost 30 years later, I have only skipped two days of matcha and those were to give birth to my two sons!! Matcha has continued to nourish my body and mind, keeping me youthful, reducing my stress, improving my focus and increasing my energy, to keep up with every day of life!!

I was among the very first to bring authentic, Japanese ceremonial matcha to the United States in the late 1990’s, long before it became a global trend. Matcha is not just an ingredient – it’s a way of life. Over the years, I’ve developed more than 20 signature blends and unique, protein-based, gluten-free recipes featuring our world-class ceremonial matcha and the highest quality organic ingredients from across the globe. Every creation at Boochies is a culinary experience that reflects my belief in food as functional, beautiful, and healing.

The Story of Boochies

Boochies started as something small, personal, and deeply rooted in my everyday life. Back in 2014, while raising my kids in Santa Barbara, I opened the original Boochies - a cozy space where I shared my love of matcha, whole foods and nourishing drinks with my local community. It quickly became a place people returned to again and again, not just for the matcha, but for how it made them feel - energized, grounded, and loved.

Since then, my work with matcha and nutrition has continued to evolve. I’ve spent decades developing blends, recipes, and functional foods that truly support the body - refining everything from ceremonial matcha drinks to complete plant-based meals. Boochies today is a reflection of that journey. It’s a space where all of that experience comes together, offering the most thoughtfully crafted matcha drinks and signature vegetarian, gluten-free dishes I’ve created over the last 30 years.

The name “Boochie” is a nickname I was given during those Santa Barbara days - when I was constantly brewing kombucha in the tiny kitchen, experimenting with matcha, herbs and whole food ingredients. That spirit of curiosity and creativity is still at the heart of everything we do.

Boochies isn’t just a bistro - it’s an extension of my home. Every drink, every dish, and every ingredient reflects my lifelong work as a nutritionist, herbalist and mother. Everything is made from scratch, using real, clean, meticulously sourced ingredients. When you walk into Boochies, our hope is that you feel as though you’re a guest in our home> Boochies is a warm, welcoming space where food and drinks have been created with a purpose and care.

All of the matcha served at Boochies is sourced through my import company, Got Matcha, where we’ve built a direct, long-standing relationship with our farm in Japan. Our matcha comes straight from Kirishima in Kagoshima - one of the most pristine growing regions in the world - crafted by multi-generational farmers and sommeliers who we work with exclusively. This is truly farm-to-table matcha, brought directly from Japan to California, preserving its integrity, freshness, and exceptional quality every step of the way. We proudly offer all five of our top ceremonial matcha grades at Boochies, giving our guests the rare opportunity to try matcha in a way they’ve never experienced before - through our distinct varietals and specialty ceremonial grades found exclusively through Got Matcha and therefore only at Boochies.

We know you’ll love it as much as we do - Rebekah “Boochie”
